This specialized training is meant to improve your overall athleticism, performance and prepare you for sport specific challenges. It’s all about conditioning your body for the activities you’ll be doing on the field, in the rink or wherever your sport is played. UFIT Athletics programs focus on speed, agility, conditioning, acceleration, power, strength and mobility. Additional benefits that sports performance training can bring to an athlete are: a lower chance of injury, isolating weaknesses, mental improvements and more enjoyment with less burnout. Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialists (CSCS) and Specialists in Strength & Conditioning from the International Sports Science Association (ISSA) hold an advantage in a highly competitive industry due to their higher qualification status, including a University bachelor's degree, compared to standard Personal Training Certificates. Strength & Conditioning Coaches understand how to identify poor movement qualities, relate poor movement quality to sports performance and injury risk – and how to adapt programming to suit the needs of individual athletes. I've been training with Josh at UFIT for 2 years now. I've done most of my training with the off-season football programs and can firmly say it's one of the primary reasons I have been successful in my athletic endeavours, helping me to accomplish my goal of playing for Queen's Varsity Football. UFIT has not only served as a training centre but as a community centre. The welcoming and friendly environment at UFIT has allowed me to form friendships with the training staff and fellow athletes that will last for years to come. "Coming back to Kingston after the Olympics was a little stressful. I knew I needed to train, and with Covid, every gym downtown had a waiting line so long outside the door I couldn’t do it anymore! A family friend suggested UFIT Kingston and I was hooked after the first day. As an athlete, I am always worried when I get introduced to new trainers because you never knew what they will try and get you to do. The last thing you want is injury !
Josh took me on right away, approached my workouts through sport specific trainings, developed a detailed training plan and helped me listen to my body as I came back from my break. Josh is the perfect combination of professional, encouraging and relaxed. I felt immediately comfortable learning and listening to his techniques and reasons behind what Josh had me doing to get fit again! Not only a great coach, but a truly great person, it was hard to get through the session without at least two belly laughs and probably some dancing. "My name is Lewis Ward and I’m the kicker for the Ottawa Redblacks. This will be my second off-season training at UFit Kingston and working with Josh. It started with a year away from football due to Covid, moving to Kingston and needing to find a new gym and program to fit my demands for my profession. After speaking with Josh, he understood what I needed and how to help me prepare, and made a plan to move forward into an off-season that would be very different to what I’m used to. With my CFL season constantly being adjusted with a start time due to Covid, Josh was great at adjusting our timeline and getting me ready for camp. I was able to achieve a successful season with the preparation work Josh had provided me with. There were times in the program I was pushed and challenged to work in ways I wasn’t used to. And just when things weren’t tough enough, Marv was always there to jump on the battle ropes and give me that extra push! I am now going into my second off-season at UFit with Josh and I’ve already seen progress over the previous year. I’m very excited for the rest of this program and the preparation for this upcoming season"

"UFIT was one of the best decisions I made for my athletic career. Not only are you provided with great facilities but with high quality training as well! I have improved my athletic performance significantly since I started at UFIT and I attribute a lot of that success to Josh and his hands-on approach. In addition to the training, the atmosphere at UFIT is unlike any other gym I’ve been to. "I have been going to UFIT for 6 years. I train 2 times a week during the hockey season and 4 times a week in off season. I started so I would gain strength and flexibility for my hockey season. My game has really improved since joining UFIT and I wouldn’t be playing like I do if I wasn’t training. I’m a goalie and Josh has helped me understand how important it is to keep my hips and knees loose but strong. At UFIT the trainers are always pushing you to bring your best but they keep it fun by joking around with you!


I just finished the summer program with all my buddies. I loved it. We did gym work, where we worked on strength, cardio and making sure our joints were flexible and bullet proof. We also did field work where we worked on speed and agility. Working out with your buddies is fun and keeps it competitive. Josh has helped me with my nutrition, worked with me through injuries, consulted with my physiotherapist to make sure my recovery was quick but solid.


I’m looking forward to this fall. Josh is going to give me an individual program with Semi-Private Training and he is going to add goalie specific training to my program, hand eye training, deeper hip and knee strengthening and flexibility, and how to be more explosive in my net! UFIT is also the only gym that has a partnership with Mike Murphy Goaltending coach. Getting to hang out with and pet Marvin is a bonus not to mention shopping in their on site lululemon store."

"I have been training at UFIT for the last 6 years. I was introduced to UFIT through my hockey team when we trained as a team during the season. I loved it instantly and continued to train on my own with Josh all year round. I have trained 2 times a week during the hockey season and 4 times a week during the off-season. I have done the personal training and the group athletic training. I love all of it.


When I started at UFIT, I had a goal of becoming stronger on and off the ice. I also needed to work on my speed while on the ice, specifically my first 3 strides. UFIT help me achieve these goals. Josh tailored my workout plans every week to target the areas I needed to work on and continually pushed me to get stronger and faster. I’ve learned much more than how to lift weights or do cardio. I’ve also learned about the nutrition I need to stay healthy.


Josh has had a major role in my success. From training me and keeping me accountable, sponsoring me, to talking to my coaches to figure out what should be added into my routine. He has even given me a training program to complete while I’m away and on my own. He has always been there for me to bounce ideas or concerns off of.  He knows the stresses of being an athlete since he was a pro football player.  What other gym would go this above and beyond for clients? "I've always considered myself a pretty good goaltender. In deciding to take my game to the next level, I started training with UFIT. Not only did I get much stronger and more flexible, but I also saw my game take off. Josh and Angus have both been a huge part in my improvement since joining the UFIT family. They have taught me the importance of proper form to help avoid injury in the gym and on the ice and design specific exercises that are important for my success.
