REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPY (RMT)

A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) is a regulated healthcare professional trained to assess and treat the body’s soft tissues and joints through hands-on techniques that promote recovery, performance, and overall well-being. Massage therapy can reduce pain, improve mobility, enhance circulation, and support both physical and mental health.

At UFIT Kingston, our RMT treatments are designed to complement training and rehabilitation programs — whether you’re an athlete striving for performance gains, recovering from injury, or looking to relieve chronic tension. Each session is tailored to your goals, incorporating techniques that support recovery, improve movement quality, and help you feel and perform at your best.

Sports Massage Therapy

Sports massage is an essential part of an athlete’s training and recovery regimen. Utilizing a variety of techniques, sports massage is designed to improve soft tissue function, enhance range of motion, and promote recovery. Whether you’re preparing for a big event, recovering from one, or simply aiming to maintain optimal condition, sports massage can help you achieve your goals.

Sports massage treatments are client-centered, taking into consideration sport, position, injury history and season. Treatments may include deep tissue, stretching, muscle energy techniques, remedial exercise and more. We also offer support and performance taping along with our sports massage therapy.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a technique distinct for its ability to reach deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Ideal for addressing chronic muscle tension and injury rehabilitation, deep tissue massage is tailored to individual needs, ensuring a focused and effective treatment.

Deep tissue techniques involve greater use of pressure and specificity compared to traditional massage techniques, which are often used for relaxation. Pressure is always adjusted based on client preferences.

TMJ Massage

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects our lower jaw to the base of our skull, enabling us to open our mouths for chewing, laughing, and speaking. When this joint becomes inflamed, it may cause symptoms such as jaw pain, headaches, clicking sounds, earaches, dizziness and vertigo. TMJ massage can help decrease tension around the jaw, head and neck, and relieve pain and discomfort.

TMJ massage utilizes specific techniques to target muscles involved with jaw movement, and may include techniques such as deep tissue massage, active stretch, relaxation massage, and learning self-massage techniques to help with day-to-day management of symptoms.
